Issues of equality, diversity and inclusiveness of educ ation are supervised by the Department for Educational Work and Youth Policy and Department for academic policy.

Reasonable Accommodation Policy

In 2015, Kazakhstan ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, thereby taking on many obligations in relation to this category of citizens.

The purpose of the Convention is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment by all persons with disabilities of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity.

To achieve this goal, the Convention enshrines a number of principles:

  • full and effective involvement and inclusion in society;
  • equality of opportunity;
  • non-discrimination;
  • availability.

Accessibility for persons with disabilities and persons with special educational needs is achieved through reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation is that the activities of the Karaganda Industrial University are adapted for people with disabilities and people with special educational needs in two ways:

  1. The accessibility of buildings is ensured by equipping them with ramps, wide doorways, inscriptions, signs, etc.
  2. Availability of university services for disabled people and persons with special educational needs is ensured by changing the procedure for their provision, providing additional assistance when receiving them, etc. (organization of space, organization of the workplace of a student with disabilities, special technical and software training tools).

The implementation of accessibility is described in more detail in the Regulations on the organization of inclusive education for persons with disabilities in NLC “Karaganda Industrial University” and the Plan for the organization of psychological and pedagogical support of inclusive education for 2021-2023.

Forms of students’ education

Students with disabilities and disabilities study full-time. Distance learning technologies can be used in the organization of the educational process.

The use of distance learning technologies and e-learning makes it possible to study regardless of the territorial location. The construction of the educational process takes into account the individual needs and capabilities of the student.

The choice of teaching methods for students with special educational needs is determined by the content of training, the level of professional training of the teaching staff, methodological and logistical support, the peculiarities of the perception of educational information by students with disabilities, etc.

Conditions for providing social support to students

Students with disabilities and disabilities studying on a contractual basis, depending on the disability group, in accordance with the Regulations on the university’s educational grant, university scholarships and benefits for studying at the NCL “Karaganda Industrial University” by the decision of the Academic Council, a discount on tuition from 10 to 30% is provided.

 

The adaptation of educational programs is implemented as follows:

  1. Drawing up an individual training schedule taking into account the features provided for by the individual rehabilitation and habilitation program. The term of study for such students according to an individual curriculum can be extended if necessary.
  2. Using online courses and electronic educational resources for self-study.
  3. Using remote access of students to the resources of the educational portal through the CarIU website and personal accounts in the AIS “Platonus” and MOODLЕ information systems.
  4. Educational and methodological assistance to students through consultations of teachers in online and offline modes
