The history of the formation of the department «Metal forming» is not discontinuously connected with the development of the Karaganda Metallurgical Combine and the city of Temirtau. The department was organized in 1964, in 1965 the first set of students in the specialty «Metal forming» was carried out for a full-time department. In total, the department has trained more than 2000 engineers. Many of them have become well-known research scientists, competent specialists, senior production managers.

Graduates of the department were: ex-rectors, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Dylyuk A.G. and Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Naizabekov A.B., also a colonel of the Russian army, Candidate of Military Sciences Alimov M.K., many have built their careers at various enterprises of Kazakhstan (JSC «ArcelorMittal Temirtau», LLP «Aktobe rail-block Plant», Kaz-Metiz LLP, etc.), Russia and around the world.

Many graduates of the department have made a great contribution to the formation and development of the department, doing research and teaching, developing and maintaining international relations with partner universities in Russia, Belarus, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and other countries.

Currently, the university's teachers are such graduates as PhD., Associate Professor Ashkeev Zh.A., Karipbaeva A.R., m.t.s. Lelikova O.N., PhD Ainabekova S.S., senior lecturer Ibraeva A. E., PhD Yerzhanov A.S., PhD Panin E.A., PhD Volokitin A.V., m.t.s. Esbolat A.B.

The department conducts training in Kazakh, Russian and English languages in all forms with full and reduced terms of study, both under state educational grants and on a paid basis.

Scientific work is carried out on a regular basis in various areas related to the sphere of scientific interests of the department staff. Research results are actively published in scientific journals, including highly-rated peer-reviewed, indexed in Scopus and Web of Science databases, and reported at conferences of various levels.
