About the Department

The chair “History of Kazakhstan and social and humanitarian disciplines and physical education” was formed on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of  KIU in June 30, 2017. In the structure of the department there are two sections:

• “Social and Humanitarian Sciences”;

• “Physical education”.

Earlier sections were separate departments and represented structural divisions of the university with its history, traditions and directions of educational, methodical and scientific activity.

Section “Social and Humanitarian Sciences” during its existence has been repeatedly reorganized.

November 1, 1963, simultaneously with the formation of the plant-HTEI at KMP, here was created the chair “Social Sciences”, which was headed by associate professor, candidate of historical sciences Zaitsev Vasiliy.

In December 1964, the Department of “Social Sciences” was renamed the Department of “Marxism-Leninism”. In 1968, two new structures were created on its base: the Department of History of the CPSS and Scientific Communism and the Department of Philosophy and Political Economy.

In 1970, young specialists came to the chair of the history of the CPSS and scientific communism after graduating from the Faculty of History of the Kazakh State University – Jagparov N, Gunashev A, Saponova L. Later, the chair “History of the CPSS and Scientific Communism” was led by young candidates of science Jagparov N (1975-1981) and Gunashov A (1982-1989).

The Department of Philosophy and Political Economy in 1973-1976 was led by Siyanina Maya, and since 1976 – Popandopulo Ivan.

In 1990, on the initiative of Mukhina Zinara, another humanitarian department was established at the institute “Moral, Aesthetic and Legal Education”, renamed in 1992 to the Department of “Culturology”. In 1992-1994 she was headed by Valentina Shitova, and since 1994 – Oksana Gumenchuk.

In November 1996, as a result of the next general institutional restructuring, all the humanities departments were merged into one department “Philosophy and Social and Humanities” (Head of the Department, Gumenchuk O.).
