In 2026, declared the Year of Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization, Kazakhstan is taking a strategic step toward integrating AI into the country's scientific infrastructure. At the strategic session "Foresight of Science and Technology of Kazakhstan: From Data to Decisions" in Almaty, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Artificial Intelligence Dmitry Mun spoke about the role of the Ministry of AI in advancing national science and implementing predictive analytics. Today, more than 400 participants — scientists, representatives of ministries, industry, universities, and research institutes — discussed the development of a national foresight research and predictive analytics system, as well as the establishment of a unified forecasting system for the country and its regions. The main focus was placed on the Academy's work with regions: building a foresight network, and engaging local administrations (akimats) and industry in defining priority areas of scientific and technological development. The highlight of the event was the opening of the Kazakhstan-Korean AI SilkNet Center — a joint initiative of the National Academy of Sciences and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). KISTI President Dr. Sik Lee participated in the ceremony. AI SilkNet will become the country's first national platform for predictive analytics and science and technology foresight, providing tools for analyzing global and national trends and assessing technological risks. According to Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Artificial Intelligence Dmitry Mun, the platform opens new opportunities for national science: "Science and technology foresight is a strategic management tool. The national AI platform enables the analysis of large volumes of scientific information, identification of global technological trends, patent and publication analytics, the formation of predictive development scenarios for various industries, and the creation of specialized AI agents for scientific and expert tasks." AI SilkNet will enable the Academy to develop its own AI agents, accelerate the preparation of strategic reports, and build a monitoring system for global technological changes. "Science has historically determined the trajectory of state development. Today, national science has the opportunity to strengthen its position through artificial intelligence infrastructure. This is a step toward forming the country's intellectual sovereignty and marks a new chapter in the history of science in Kazakhstan," Mun noted. KISTI is South Korea's leading institute in the field of scientific and technical information and forecasting, specializing in the implementation of AI and high-performance computing in R&D, the development of national science and technology infrastructure, and future forecasting. The establishment of the AI SilkNet Center opens new opportunities for transferring advanced international practices into Kazakhstan's science system and strengthening strategic partnership with Korea in the field of AI and innovation.
