The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan is actively cooperating with leading international companies such as NVIDIA, Google, Astana Hub, EduSystem, Huawei, and Coursera.
Joint initiatives and projects aimed at developing
competencies in digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and innovative
education are being implemented with each of them. For example, as part of the
cooperation with Coursera, 197,000 students completed training and received
388,000 certificates over three years. The platform offers 225 courses in
artificial intelligence. This was reported by Vice Minister of Science and
Higher Education of Kazakhstan Dinara Shcheglova.
As part of the AI-Sana program, students received 72,406
certificates, which indicates their strong interest in digital and artificial
intelligence fields.
“Special attention is being paid to the development of
infrastructure in higher education institutions for training specialists in
artificial intelligence and conducting research. Special centers and
laboratories have been created at leading universities, where science is
combined with practice. Today, AI centers are successfully operating at East
Kazakhstan Technical University, Astana IT University, Kazakh National
University, Atyrau University of Oil and Gas, Alikhan Bokeikhan University, and
other universities,” the Vice Minister noted.
In addition, separate departments of artificial
intelligence have been opened at Kazakh National University, the International
Kazakh-Turkish University, the International University of Information
Technologies, and Astana IT University. Several research laboratories are also
operating. The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence at
Nazarbayev University, which has been functioning since 2019, was transformed
into a full-fledged research institute in 2024.
An academic supercomputer cluster is also being formed on
the basis of universities such as Kazakh National University, Eurasian National
University, Satbayev University, and Nazarbayev University. In the future, the
task is to combine this capacity into a single network and provide access to
all universities in the country. This will allow Kazakhstan to become one of
the regional leaders in academic computing and joint research with international
partners.
It is worth recalling that on November 21, the PROFIT
Education Day conference dedicated to information technologies in education
will be held in Almaty.
