Kazakhstan launches its first AI university — QAZAQ AI Research University

A new-generation university — Qazaq AI Research University, positioned as the first AI-enabled university in Central Asia — has been presented in Astana. QAIRU's educational model is built around artificial intelligence: it is embedded into the learning process, shapes individual learning trajectories, and supports students at every stage through digital assistants. The bachelor's program lasts three years and is focused on intensive, practice-oriented learning with an emphasis on project work and industry skills. Instruction will be conducted in English. One of the university's key features is a 24/7 AI-tutor system that helps students with learning, completing assignments, and building a personal educational trajectory. Hybrid learning formats are also provided — offline, online, and AI-assisted learning. According to the developers, graduates will finish their studies with a ready-made AI product in their portfolio. The university is located on the EXPO grounds in Astana and is integrated into Kazakhstan's national AI ecosystem, including access to Alem.cloud, supercomputing infrastructure, and research platforms. QAIRU also announced the launch of three research labs: the Quantum AI Lab, the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Lab, and the AI Health Lab. International partners include Mohamed bin Zayed University of AI, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, and other academic and industry organizations. Applications for the 2026 academic year will be accepted from June 20 to August 25. Selection is based on NIS (UNT) exam results and admission procedures. Applications can be submitted through the eGov e-government portal and the OQU educational platform.
