President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared September 25, 2026, a national day of mourning
in connection with the deaths of military personnel in the Mangystau Region.
The corresponding order was published by Akorda.
The tragedy occurred
on September 24 during an exercise of the Naval Forces on the Caspian Sea coast
in the Mangystau Region.
According to
preliminary data from the Ministry of Defense, weather conditions deteriorated
sharply and the wind intensified while the military personnel were carrying out
a training and combat mission, after which a group of servicemen was swept out
to sea.
According to the
latest information, the identities of 12 deceased military personnel have been
established. Two more servicemen are reported missing, while one is in critical
condition at the Mangystau Regional Hospital.
