September 1 at Karaganda Industrial University was not only the
beginning of the new academic year, but also a day that brought together
different generations. First-year students, faculty members, guests, and
graduates who completed the university 50 years ago gathered in one hall.
Another important event was the first presentation of the Nariman Ishmukhamedov
Named Educational Grants.
The ceremonial event began with a congratulatory address by KarIU Rector
Bakhyt Zhautykov. He noted that Knowledge Day holds special significance for
the entire university community.
— For first-year students, a new stage of life begins; for students, it
is a new year of opportunities and discoveries; and for faculty members, it is
a continuation of the important work of passing on knowledge and experience, —
said the Rector.
In the new academic year, more than 1,000 people enrolled at Karaganda
Industrial University. Young people from different parts of Kazakhstan,
including the southern and western regions of the country, came to KarIU. The
number of international students is also growing. Applicants from Azerbaijan,
Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries are choosing Temirtau as a
place to pursue their education. According to the Rector, this demonstrates
growing interest in the university and confidence in the quality of education.
Among those admitted are recipients of the «Altyn Belgi» distinction.
Thirteen of them received state educational grants. Another graduate with the
«Altyn Belgi» distinction was awarded a grant from the KarIU Academic Council.
The presence of graduates who received their KarIU diplomas half a century ago
added a special atmosphere to the celebration. They shared their memories and
spoke about their professional journeys. Over the years, many of them have
become renowned and respected specialists, leaders, scientists, and public
figures. Their names are well known not only in their native Temirtau and
Kazakhstan, but also beyond the country.
Addressing the first-year students, university veterans recalled their
student years, their first teachers, the beginning of their professional
careers, and the events that influenced their choice of profession.
One of the main highlights of the meeting was the first presentation of
the Nariman Ishmukhamedov Named Educational Grants. Nariman Ishmukhamedov was a
former Rector of the Plant-VTUZ (now KarIU), a professor and an outstanding
metallurgist who made a significant contribution to the development of the
university and national science.
Fifteen first-year students became recipients of the named grants. They
will study at the university free of charge and receive a monthly scholarship
of 150,000 tenge. This support will allow students to focus on their studies,
research, and professional development.
The grants were presented to the students by Nariman Ishmukhamedov’s
granddaughter. She said that her grandfather had forever become part of the
university’s history as a scientist, educator, and leader. His son, who became
a successful businessman, decided to continue his father’s work — helping the
younger generation receive an education, develop themselves, and carry on the
professor’s legacy through their achievements.
Addressing the first-year students, Bakhyt Zhautykov encouraged them to
actively use the opportunities provided by the university: to study seriously,
engage in research, participate in projects, find like-minded people, and not
be afraid to set ambitious goals for themselves.
