On February 26, a round table titled “Green Agenda and Industrial Transition: Sustainable Solutions for Energy and Metallurgy” was held at Karaganda Industrial University. The event was organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ international project “Green Deal for Central Asian Universities (GDCAU)” with the support of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and became an important platform for discussing the environmental transformation of industry.
The round table was attended by members of the
university’s management, researchers, faculty members, master’s students, and
specialists from industrial enterprises of the region. Participants discussed
strategic directions for implementing sustainable development policies in an
industrial region, reducing the carbon footprint and decarbonizing production,
transitioning metallurgical enterprises to natural gas, as well as prospects
for introducing green hydrogen technologies as one of the key elements of the
future low-carbon economy.
Presentations were delivered by A.O. Chvanova, Director
of the Department of Strategy and Internationalization, who outlined the main
areas of international cooperation and the role of universities in promoting
sustainable development principles; S.N. Kamarova, Head of the Department of
Energy, who highlighted scientific approaches to modernizing energy systems;
and V.I. Kazakov, Manager of the Central Heat Engineering Laboratory of QARMET
JSC, who shared practical experience in implementing energy-efficient and
environmentally oriented solutions in production. Master’s students of the
university also presented their research and proposals, demonstrating a high
level of youth engagement in addressing environmental and technological
challenges.
During the discussion, special attention was paid to
strengthening cooperation between science and industry, developing applied
research, and training a new generation of specialists capable of working in
the conditions of a “green” economic transformation. At the end of the meeting,
participants emphasized that only through the consolidation of efforts by
educational institutions, business, and the expert community can sustainable
development of the region’s energy and metallurgical sectors be ensured.
The round table confirmed the importance of systematic
dialogue and joint initiatives in promoting sustainable development principles
and environmental responsibility in the industrial sector.
