On October 13, the
Kazakhstan-Belgium Rectors’ Forum was held in Astana with the participation of
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, King Philippe of Belgium, and
Queen Mathilde. The forum focused on cooperation between the two countries in the
fields of artificial intelligence, higher education, and science.
The meeting was
attended by representatives of relevant ministries, 18 Kazakhstani and 11
Belgian universities and scientific organizations. A total of 23 agreements
were signed following the forum. Karaganda Industrial University was among the
10 Kazakhstani universities participating in the signing ceremony.
KarIU and KU Leuven,
represented by the Institute for Sustainable Metals and Minerals (SIM²), signed
a memorandum for a period of five years. The agreement provides for student and
researcher exchanges, internships, joint classes and research projects, as well
as the preparation of grant applications. In the future, the parties plan to
explore the possibility of launching joint educational programs, including
dual-degree programs.
The Karaganda Branch
of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan notes that
this cooperation will help apply international experience to address practical
challenges faced by enterprises in the region. It will also create new opportunities
for training engineers and implementing modern technologies.
