Artificial
intelligence is already transforming education. It helps students find
information faster, model production processes, analyze data, and test
solutions before working with real equipment. For a technical university, this
is especially important: an error in a virtual environment becomes part of the
learning process, while in production it can be costly.
Karaganda
Industrial University offers the educational program “Artificial Intelligence
Technologies.” Students study machine learning, neural networks, computer
vision, data analysis, robotics, and information security. Graduates will be
able to work as intelligent systems developers, ML engineers, and data specialists.
However, AI skills
are needed not only by programmers. In the energy sector, such systems help
predict equipment malfunctions; in metallurgy, they are used to monitor
production processes; in economics, they help assess risks; and in science, they
enable the processing of large volumes of information.
KarIU also
participates in the national AI-Sana program. More than 2,700 university
students have completed courses on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence
on the Huawei and Coursera platforms. Participants not only become familiar
with digital tools, but also work on practical tasks, learn design thinking,
and develop their own projects.
AI is also
gradually becoming part of the university’s daily life. KarIU is developing a
system of digital assistants for students, staff, and applicants. They will be
able to answer questions about admission and academic mobility, help first-year
students navigate the university, explain requirements for graduation theses,
and check the formatting of research articles.
Such services do
not replace teachers or university staff. Their purpose is to handle routine
requests: find the necessary document, remind users of an application deadline,
or suggest the sequence of actions. Issues that require experience, professional
judgment, and personal communication remain the responsibility of people.
At the same time,
AI must be used responsibly. A neural network may present an incorrect answer
as a convincing fact, provide a nonexistent reference, or complete an assignment
on behalf of a student that they are expected to do independently. Therefore,
the ability to verify information, compare sources, and take responsibility for
the final result is essential.
The main role of
AI in education is to make learning more visual, accessible, and practical. It
does not replace knowledge, teachers, or hands-on industrial experience, but it
helps students master complex topics faster, test ideas, and find new
solutions.
