On September 9, a
unified curator hour on the topic “The Culture of Greeting — Part of the
National Cultural Code” was held at all faculties of Karaganda Industrial
University.
Students discussed
why an ordinary greeting reflects a person’s upbringing, respect for others,
and knowledge of traditions. Particular attention was paid to Kazakh etiquette,
which is based on respect for elders, modesty, restraint, and careful consideration
of another person’s dignity.
Personal boundaries
were also discussed as a separate topic. Participants talked about whether hugs
and other forms of physical contact are always appropriate, how to recognize
when a person feels uncomfortable, and how to politely decline an unwanted greeting.
During the practical
part, students examined real-life situations related to communication between
representatives of different cultures, the influence of social media, and the
preservation of national traditions in the modern world.
The main conclusion
of the meeting was that being open to the world does not require abandoning
one’s roots. National culture is preserved through everyday actions — in
language, greetings, respectful communication, and the ability to respect
another person’s personal boundaries.
