At Karaganda Industrial University, the Methodological Preparation Week of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science is being held (February 16–20, 2026). The opening took place in the library of the main building in an unusual format combining an educational-methodological exhibition and an interactive quest for students.
The first day began with intellectual puzzles at the
library entrance: teams “opened the door to knowledge” by answering questions
and immersing themselves in a game and research atmosphere. Participants then
learned to use the KABIS electronic catalog, how to search for literature by
keywords and author, understood the UDC system, and mastered orientation
principles on library shelves.
A particularly engaging stage involved searching for
hidden messages: students had to locate specific books, extract clues, and
assemble a team-wide diagram. While completing these tasks, they reinforced
skills in correctly formatting bibliographic descriptions and independently
selecting UDC codes—essential competencies for preparing essays, term papers,
and theses. The day concluded with an introduction to the IPR SMART electronic
library, which expands access to modern scientific resources.
In reflection, participants noted that they became
more confident navigating the catalog and UDC system, formatting bibliographies
correctly, and that the quest format made working with the library more
understandable and enjoyable.
Throughout the week, the library hosts an exhibition
of educational and methodological literature from the Department of Metallurgy
and Materials Science.
The department expresses gratitude to the librarians
