An International Round Table entitled “The Role of Youth Initiatives in University Activities: International Experience, Modern Approaches and Local Practices” was held at the Karaganda Branch of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was organized jointly with Karaganda Industrial University and brought together scientists from different countries, faculty members and young researchers.
At the invitation of Bakhyt Zhautykov, Chairman of the Karaganda Branch of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Rector of Karaganda Industrial University, scientists from Japan, South Korea, China, Poland and Malaysia took part in the round table. Representatives of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, faculty members and young researchers also joined the discussion.
The participants presented scientific reports and spoke about how universities in different countries support youth projects. Particular attention was paid to involving students in scientific, innovative and public activities.
During the open discussion, experts discussed what conditions are necessary for implementing student ideas, how to establish an ongoing dialogue between young people and the academic community, and what role a university can play in developing the initiative of young people.
The practical continuation of the round table included master classes and lectures for students of Karaganda Industrial University. They were conducted by Ankit Garg, Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University; Eun Cheol Shin, Professor at Incheon National University; and Yoshinori Iwasaki, Professor and Executive Director of Geoengineering Iwasaki Office.
The foreign scholars introduced students to modern approaches to teaching, presented current areas of research, and shared their professional and international academic experience. The meetings were held in an interactive format: students asked questions, expressed their opinions and actively participated in the discussions.
For Karaganda Industrial University students, the sessions provided an opportunity not only to gain new knowledge, but also to communicate directly with leading foreign specialists, learn about different approaches to education and science, and broaden their professional horizons.
Support for such platforms from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan contributes to the development of international academic cooperation, strengthening ties between young researchers and
recognized scholars, and creating new opportunities for implementing youth initiatives.
The International Round Table demonstrated that youth initiatives can become an important part of university development. To achieve this, students need an open platform, the support of experienced mentors and the opportunity to participate in discussions on decision-making. It is precisely such dialogue that helps young people turn their ideas into real scientific, social and innovative projects.
