Karaganda Industrial University hosted a seminar on digital and
financial security as part of the republican “Law and Order” project.
Participants were informed about how to protect personal data and bank
accounts, identify fraudsters, and respond appropriately when faced with
fraudulent activity.
Today, almost everyone uses mobile banking applications, social media,
and electronic services. Along with convenience, digital technologies also
bring certain risks. Fraudsters are constantly developing new schemes in an
attempt to gain access to citizens’ personal information, passwords, and funds.
Therefore, knowledge of the basic rules of digital security has become an
essential skill.
The event was held with the support of the Republican Public Association
“Zhanaru” and as part of the “Zhastarmen” project. Practical recommendations
were shared with the seminar participants by representatives of the Temirtau
Prosecutor’s Office Assel Mussabekova and Indira Isina; Ekaterina Tleubayeva,
Head of the Halyk Bank branch in Temirtau; Valeria Alantyeva, Senior Bank
Manager; Samal Ibragimova, Head of the Anti-Corruption Compliance Service of
the Non-Profit Joint-Stock Company “Karaganda Industrial University”; and
Guldana Dairbekova, University Ombudsman.
The speakers spoke about the most common types of digital and financial
fraud and reminded participants why passwords, SMS codes, bank card details,
and other confidential information must not be shared with third parties.
Particular attention was paid to the appropriate course of action in situations
where a person has already encountered fraudsters or noticed suspicious
activity.
Such meetings help improve students’ legal and financial literacy,
foster a responsible attitude towards personal data, and develop safe behaviour
in the digital environment. The main takeaway from the seminar was simple:
attentiveness, caution, and timely consultation with specialists can
significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud.
