Modern enterprises need specialists who are ready to start working immediately after graduating from university. This is why Karaganda Industrial University actively develops dual education—a format that combines theoretical learning with continuous practical training in the workplace.

During dual education, students acquire theoretical knowledge at the university while simultaneously working at an enterprise. About one-third of the educational program consists of theory, while the major part of the training takes place in a real production environment. This approach allows students not only to master their profession but also to understand the specifics of their future work while they are still studying.

Another important advantage is the direct involvement of employers in professional training. Enterprises determine what specialists they need, sign agreements with students, and may fully or partially cover their tuition fees. Students receive a salary for the hours they work and are entitled to social benefits. After graduation, they can continue working at the enterprise that trained them as future employees.

Today, dual education is available to students enrolled in several educational programs, including Software Engineering, Automation Systems Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Process Equipment, Power Supply for Industrial Facilities, Industrial, Environmental and Fire Safety, Materials Processing by Pressure, and Chemical Technology of Organic Substances.

The university’s partners include some of the country’s leading companies: Qarmet JSC, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, Imstalkon-Temirtau LLP, QazTehna LLP, and Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan JSC.

Both entire student groups and individual students can participate in dual education. Most commonly, third- and fourth-year students who have already received basic professional training join the program. When selecting candidates, employers consider not only their academic knowledge but also their sense of responsibility, teamwork skills, and motivation to develop professionally.

It is important to distinguish dual education from an industrial internship. An internship is a part of the educational process that lasts for a limited period and provides an introduction to the profession. Dual education, on the other hand, involves the regular alternation of university classes and work at an enterprise. Students become part of a professional team, gain experience in performing real production tasks, and gradually master their future profession.

The salary amount depends on the enterprise, position, and the student’s qualifications. At the same time, students studying under a state educational grant continue to receive their scholarship in addition to the salary paid by the employer.

The effectiveness of this approach has already been proven in practice. Graduates who studied under company-funded grants and received paid practical training at enterprises are successfully working as mechanics, construction specialists, metallurgists, and power engineers.

The university’s network of department branches also contributes to the development of practice-oriented education. Today, Karaganda Industrial University has 14 department branches operating at leading enterprises and research organizations in the Karaganda Region. Students attend specialized classes there, work with modern equipment, participate in real industrial projects, and become familiar with technologies used by enterprises.

This educational format helps future specialists adapt to their professions more quickly, while employers gain employees who are ready to work without lengthy additional training. It is therefore no coincidence that the employment rate of Karaganda Industrial University graduates has remained consistently high at around 90% for several years.
