The times when a single diploma was enough for an entire professional
career are becoming a thing of the past. Technologies are changing rapidly,
automated systems, artificial intelligence, and new equipment are being
introduced at enterprises. To remain in demand, people need to continuously
expand their knowledge and acquire new skills.
Karaganda Industrial University develops educational opportunities for
people of different ages — from schoolchildren who are just choosing their
future profession to experienced specialists and members of the older
generation.
The first introduction to the university begins with the Summer School
for schoolchildren. Its participants visit KarIU laboratories, meet teachers
and students, and take part in practical classes and master classes. This helps
children learn more about engineering and technical professions, discover their
abilities, and make a more informed career choice.
For students, the main educational program is supplemented by courses,
training sessions, open lectures, scientific conferences, hackathons,
professional competitions, and internships. Students can study programming, 3D
modeling, automation, digital technologies, and project management in depth.
Such education provides practical skills that are in demand at modern
enterprises. Completed courses can be confirmed by certificates and complement
the professional portfolio of a future graduate.
Another area focuses on professional development for university teachers
and staff. In 2026, they are offered training in artificial intelligence,
information security, academic integrity, inclusive education, and modern
digital tools. Teachers learn to create online courses, work with educational
platforms, and use new technologies when preparing classes and assessing
knowledge.
The experience gained should be applied in the classroom. After
completing courses and internships, teachers update course content, develop new
assignments, and introduce students to tools that are already being used in
education, science, and industry.
People of older age can also continue their education. The “Silver
University” operates at KarIU for this purpose. Participants are offered
classes in computer and financial literacy, the basics of entrepreneurship, as
well as chess and physical activities. Training is conducted in Kazakh and
Russian and combines lectures with practical sessions. Upon completion of the
program, participants receive personalized certificates.
However, the “Silver University” is not only about classes. It helps
people remain active, discover new interests, communicate with others, and
share their life experience.
Another area is the “Summer School.” It helps children become acquainted
with the university, learn more about engineering and technical professions,
and test their abilities through practical activities. Schoolchildren can visit
university laboratories, communicate with teachers and students, and take part
in experiments, master classes, and educational activities.
The “Summer School” provides an opportunity to see what engineers, power
engineers, metallurgists, chemists, programmers, and representatives of other
professions actually do. This is especially important for high school students
who will soon have to choose a specialty and their further educational path.
Today, KarIU is becoming a place where people can come to gain knowledge
at any stage of life. A schoolchild becomes acquainted with a profession, a
student acquires additional skills, a specialist improves their qualifications,
a teacher masters modern working methods, and an older person discovers new
opportunities.
Lifelong learning teaches us the most important thing — not to be afraid
of change and to be ready to develop. Age and the amount of time that has
passed since obtaining a diploma are not decisive. What matters is the desire
to learn something new and move forward.
