RESPECT CULTURE AND PERSONAL BOUNDARIES DISCUSSED AT KARAGANDA INDUSTRIAL UNIVERSITY

On February 17, an open lecture titled “The Culture of Human Relationships: Respect, Consent and Personal Boundaries” was held at Karaganda Industrial University. The meeting was organized by the university’s psychological service. The event brought together several dozen students from various majors, demonstrating the relevance of the topic for the youth community.

During the lecture, participants discussed respectful communication within the academic community and beyond, the ability to build healthy personal and professional relationships, as well as the importance of conscious consent in all forms of interaction. Particular attention was paid to the concept of personal boundaries — how to recognize them, how to communicate them appropriately, and how to respond if they are violated.

The psychologist emphasized that a culture of relationships begins with understanding one’s own feelings and needs. Students were explained why it is important to be able to say “no” without feeling guilty, while at the same time respecting another person’s refusal. The discussion also covered peer pressure, the inadmissibility of manipulation, emotional abuse, and forms of hidden aggression that may appear in everyday communication.

A separate section was devoted to the development of empathy — the ability to listen to and understand others without devaluing their experiences. Specialists of the psychological service provided examples of typical conflict situations in the student environment and offered practical tools for their peaceful resolution. The format of the meeting included not only a lecture component but also a live discussion: participants were able to ask questions and share their observations.

Such events are especially important in the university environment, where young people go through a stage of personal development, learn independence, and build their first serious social connections. Moreover, such meetings contribute to the development of emotional intelligence, responsibility for one’s words and actions, and the strengthening of the values of mutual respect and tolerance.
