What awaits a first-year student after classes? Creativity,
volunteering, debates, media, social projects — on September 11, during the
second part of the Student Self-Government Bodies Day, students of Karaganda
Industrial University saw how diverse and eventful university life could be.
The second part of the event was held in the format of an Open Day of
student organizations. It allowed first-year students not only to hear the
names of the organizations, but also to meet their leaders, learn about their
areas of activity and discover the opportunities available to active young
people.
Zhassmina Turgymbayeva, Chair of the Committee for Youth Affairs, spoke
about how youth initiatives were supported at the university. She introduced
first-year students to the work of the committee and explained what kind of
assistance students could receive if they wanted to organize an event, create a
project or propose a useful idea.
One of the main bodies of student self-government was the Student
Quryltai. Its President, Sherkhan Duissenbayev, spoke about the activities of
the organization, which represented the interests of students, supported their
initiatives and provided opportunities to participate in university life.

Vice President of the Student Quryltai, explained how students’ ideas were put
into practice and what skills could be acquired through teamwork.
Such activities were particularly important in the context of the new
Constitution of Kazakhstan. The Basic Law established the priority of human
development, education, science and active civic participation. Student
self-government helped apply these principles during university life: young
people learned to express their opinions, make decisions, respect the rights of
others and take responsibility for the common result.
The first-year students were then introduced to the creative
organizations of KarIU. Zhaudir Sapar, Head of the “QarIU Zhuldizdary”
organization, spoke about opportunities for students interested in music and
vocal performance and also performed a musical number.
Representatives of the “Sanaly Urpaq” organization spoke about
developing an honest and responsible attitude toward public life. Its members
promoted the principles of integrity and anti-corruption culture among
students.
The “KarIU Media” team demonstrated how the university’s information
environment was created. Gulzhaina Kurmashova, Head of the organization,
introduced the audience to the work of students who took photographs and
videos, prepared content for social media and covered the university’s most
important events. For first-year students interested in journalism, photography
and editing, this area could become their first platform for professional
practice.
The “Parasat Poeziya” organization presented an area related to
literature, knowledge and spiritual development. Its members brought together
students interested in poetry, reading and creative reflection on the world
around them.
Original ideas, design and new projects formed the basis of the creative
organization “Qaz-Line”. Its Head, Dilnaz Erbolkyzy, spoke about how students
could develop their abilities, experiment with different formats and turn an
unusual idea into a completed project.
The program continued with a vibrant performance by the “QazDance” dance
organization. Its Head, Balzhan Surap, introduced the audience to the work of
the group. The members performed choreographic numbers and demonstrated how
dance helped develop stage skills, confidence and the ability to work as a
team.
Volunteering also held a special place in the program. Representatives
of the “Qamqor” organization spoke about volunteer initiatives and assistance
to people facing difficult circumstances. First-year students were reminded
that a good deed does not always require significant resources: sometimes
attention and timely support alone can change a person’s life.
Those who wanted to learn how to express their opinions with sound
arguments and calmly accept opposing viewpoints were introduced to the “Abadan”
Debate Club. Its Head, Dilara Ilias, spoke about the club’s areas of activity
and opportunities to develop critical thinking, logic and public speaking
skills.
The Zhaidarman team also presented its creative activities. The
organization’s Head, Nurzhan Khozhiev, invited active and resourceful students
to try themselves on stage. Participation in the team helped develop a sense of
humor, quick reactions, acting skills and confidence in front of an audience.
The introduction to the organizations concluded with a performance by
Dinmukhammed Tastan, Head of the “Arystan” organization. Its activities were
aimed at strengthening public order, increasing students’ civic responsibility
and creating a safe university environment.
Musical and dance performances made the meeting lively and dynamic.
First-year students saw that a student organization was not simply a formal
list of participants, but a team of people united by a common cause.
At the end, students were invited to join the Student Quryltai’s common
information community using a QR code. News, announcements and information
about upcoming events were published there.
Held on the eve of Family Day, the meeting also highlighted another
important value: the university community brings together people who support
one another, develop together and work toward a common result. Student
organizations help first-year students feel that they are part of a large
university family.
