On
May 12, the closing ceremony of the spring semester of the “Silver University”
took place at the Karaganda Industrial University. Participants of the project
were solemnly awarded certificates of completion. For many attendees, this day
became not only the end of classes, but also proof that gaining new knowledge
and mastering modern skills is possible at any age.
⠀“Silver University” is an educational project for the
older generation created within the framework of the lifelong learning concept.
Here, retirees and pre-retirement age participants can not only broaden their
horizons, but also master modern technologies, discover new hobbies, and feel
themselves part of an active community.
⠀According to Elena Kharchenko, Director of the
Department of Academic Policy at Karaganda Industrial University, the project
continues to develop every year and is becoming increasingly востребованным.
⠀— The project was created within the framework of the
lifelong learning idea. The university strives to develop not only its students
and graduates, but also older people. We have no age restrictions, — says Elena
Kharchenko.
⠀According to her, the “Silver University” at KARIU is
constantly expanding its program and trying to take into account the interests
of participants. This year, a new direction called the “Parents Academy” was
introduced.
⠀Special attention is paid to practical classes.
Participants take part in role-playing games, analyze real-life situations, and
receive consultations from specialists of the psychological support service.
Overall, the project provides participants with many opportunities. Here, older
people gain new knowledge, train their memory and thinking skills, discover new
interests, and expand their social circle. In addition, participants attend
yoga and chess classes, which help maintain physical activity and well-being.
⠀One of the most popular areas remains digital
technologies. Older people are taught how to use smartphones, online services,
and government platforms, as well as how to protect themselves from internet
fraudsters.
⠀The project’s teachers admit that working with “Silver
University” participants is especially rewarding. According to them, the
attendees approach classes very responsibly, sincerely strive for knowledge,
and are not afraid to ask questions.
⠀— It is never too late to learn. The world is
constantly changing, new technologies are emerging, and it is important not to
stop developing. We are very pleased to see how actively participants engage in
the process. They ask interesting questions, share life experience, and even
help adapt courses to their needs, — the teachers note.
⠀The participants themselves say that studying became a
real discovery for them.
— We did not even expect it to be so interesting. Here we have communication,
new knowledge, and the opportunity to feel needed. This is very important for
retirees, — the participants share.
Many note that the classes help them feel more confident in the modern world
and keep up with their children and grandchildren.
⠀— It is only a pity that the “Silver University” opens
only twice a year. We would like such classes to be held more often, — say the
project participants.
⠀Interest in the “Silver University” continues to grow.
Today, education is becoming important not only for young people, but also for
the older generation who want to remain active, modern, and in demand in
society.
