On April 28, an environmental campaign to plant the “Alley of
Generations” took place on the territory of the Karaganda Industrial
University. The event was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the 1976
graduating class and was held in support of the national initiative “Taza
Kazakhstan.”
On this day, graduates of the factory-based technical university (VTUZ)
joined the students. For them, the university still remains an important part
of their lives. Many of them live and work in Temirtau, maintaining strong ties
with their alma mater and with each other. Despite the fact that some of their
classmates have moved to different countries, they continue to communicate and
support joint initiatives.
The idea of creating the alley belongs to veteran of the metallurgical
plant and head of the ethnocultural association of JSC “Qarmet,” Alisher
Zhakupbekov. At his initiative and with the support of the enterprise, 16 pine
trees and 10 birch trees were prepared for planting. In addition, he personally
purchased a rowan sapling.
Other representatives of the graduating class also joined the campaign,
including former head of the Housing and Utilities Department of Temirtau,
Shakir Nurlybayev. He noted that a major role in shaping their student
generation was played by the rector of the then factory-based VTUZ, Nariman
Kuanyshgalievich Ishmukhamedov. It was he who attracted national specialists
from the southern regions to Temirtau and created conditions in which future
professionals were formed. The class of 1976 became truly strong — among its
graduates were such leaders as Nargozhi Danaev, who became an academician and
State Prize laureate; Karabalin Ali Alibaevich, former akim of Temirtau;
Khamitov Mykty Khamitovich, Director for Personnel Development and Labor
Relations at ArcelorMittal Temirtau, and many others. All of them, at different
times, contributed to the development of the city and industry.
Participants of the campaign noted that such events not only beautify
the university campus but also preserve continuity between generations, passing
traditions and values on to current students.
Rector of the university, Bakhyt Zhauitkov, emphasized that the joint
participation of students and alumni made the event especially meaningful.
According to him, it is not just about greening the area, but also about
contributing to the development of the university environment and fostering
respect for the history of the institution and the hometown.
The “Alley of Generations” became a symbol of the connection between the
past and the present, as well as a reminder that everyone’s contribution —
whether through labor, knowledge, or a planted tree — shapes the future.
