Green Deal Center

The Green Deal Center for Evidence-Based Education, Research, Innovation and Public Engagement (GDC) is a transnational network promoting sustainable development, Green Deal priorities and the concept of a regenerative future across the Eurasian region. The Center includes physical and digital spaces at 10 universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as a central European hub at Constructor University (Germany). GDC facilitates collaborative solutions to environmental and social challenges through education, applied research, hands-on sustainability training, active student engagement and cross-sector partnerships. As a catalyst for a just and green transition, each GDC hub actively connects local stakeholders — such as environmentally oriented enterprises, NGOs, government bodies and universities — with each other and with international networks. The GDC and its hubs were established in 2025 through a grant from the EU Erasmus+ Green Deal for Central Asian Universities program, aimed at strengthening ties and commitments between Central Asian countries and the European Union by promoting shared approaches to sustainable development, climate resilience and Green Deal priorities. By combining academic knowledge with real-world impact, GDC supports: • transformation of curricula and university policies in line with the European Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); • practice-oriented research in climate, biodiversity, circular economy and social sustainability; • innovation ecosystems that bring together students, researchers, policymakers, business and civil society; • public engagement through open events, media outreach and citizen science initiatives. Each GDC hub takes into account the specificities of its local context while remaining part of a shared Eurasian platform for green transition and environmental governance.
