Timeline
17.05.2023 y. – 31.12.2025 y.
Project Relevance
Due to the gradual depletion of reserves of a number of natural minerals, on the one hand, and the accumulation of a huge amount of waste containing valuable useful components, on the other, the problem of developing so-called man-made deposits is becoming more and more urgent. Of particular interest at present are man-made deposits formed or forming on the territory of the facilities for the placement of man-made waste of the metallurgical complex, including the preparation of raw materials (extraction, processing, agglomeration, etc.), directly metallurgical processing and related production. The tendency to decrease in iron ore reserves makes it especially urgent to process technogenic waste of ferrous metallurgy in order to obtain technogenic iron ore raw materials.
The current state of metallurgical production is associated with the release and accumulation of metal-containing industrial waste, such as blast furnace, converter sludge, in which the iron content reaches 60-63%. In this regard, there is a need for scientific research and development of technology for obtaining a quality product from these wastes.
Project Goal
To study the possibility of obtaining intermediates from a coal-ore mixture for the production of high-quality steel and the likelihood of their use in other industries, while ensuring maximum utilization of blast furnace and converter production waste.
Expected Results
A large-scale analysis of existing methods of processing waste from blast furnace and converter production will be carried out.
Materials will be sampled, their chemical compositions and characteristics will be determined. The stoichiometric consumption of solid carbon for metal reduction and the kinetics of metal reduction will be determined.
Ore-coal mixtures will be obtained, research methods and theoretical foundations of solid-phase reduction of iron will also be prepared.
Laboratory tests will be carried out.
The properties of steel ingots obtained from this intermediate product and the possibilities of their use in steelmaking will be studied.
The physicochemical and metallurgical properties of the obtained intermediates will be studied. The probabilities of using the obtained intermediates in other industries will be studied.
3 articles will be published in journals from the first three quartiles with an impact factor in the Web of Science database or having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 50 and 2 articles will be published in peer-reviewed foreign or domestic publications recommended by by Committee for Quality Assurance in the Sphere of Education and Science of MSHE RK.
