Department History

The year is 1967. The order for the VTUZ plant: "In order to provide qualified management of the organization of the educational process and ensure specialized readiness to organize a DEPARTMENT of PHYSICAL EDUCATION."

To conduct physical education classes, a room was allocated for a sports hall in the main building of the VTUZ plant, which was not enough for the constantly increasing number of students studying. There is a need to expand the department.

In 1970. The foundation of the detached building of the sports building of the VTUZ plant was laid. Its construction was carried out by student construction teams in 1978. The two-storey building of the sports complex was put into operation.

At the time of creation, the department was headed by Yuri Ivanovich Tiryaki.

From 1977 to 1984, the department was headed by Viktor Nikolaevich Pak.

From 1984 to 2000, the head of the department was the candidate of medical Sciences, Associate Professor Tokarev Vladimir Alekseevich.

From 2000 to 2015, the department was headed by Tatyana Nikolaevna Bobrovskaya.

Since 2015, the section "Physical Education" as part of the Department of IC, SSDiFV has been headed by Kolesnikova Raisa Kasimovna.

Since 2024, the Physical Education section has been transformed into a department

"Physical education."

At various times, Honored coach of Kazakhstan in judo and sambo wrestling, Master of Sports of the USSR Filatov Sergey Alexandrovich, Honored Master of Sports, twenty-time world champion in powerlifting Sivokon Alexey Nikolaevich, master of sports of international class in rowing Dmitrieva Irina Yuryevna worked in the department.

Currently, teachers with extensive pedagogical experience work at the department: head of the department, senior teacher, Master of Sports of the USSR Kolesnikova R.K.,senior teacher Trus A.B., senior teacher, Master of Sports of International class Meleshko O.V., Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mosunov A.L.,senior teacher Paltseva E.V.

Educational Activities

The teaching staff of the department carries out the following educational and methodological activities in the state and Russian languages for bachelor’s degree programs:
• development and revision of educational and methodological complexes of disciplines;
• development and revision of syllabi;
• preparation of methodological manuals for disciplines;
• conducting methodological seminars and open classes;
• organization of methodological weeks;
• mutual class attendance among teachers.

In the 2024–2025 academic year, the following methodological manuals with index “C” were published:
1.“Safety Techniques in Physical Education Classes” — E.V. Paltseva.
2.“Methodology for Teaching the Rules of Board Games in Physical Education Classes” — O.V. Meleshko.
3.“Methodology for Using Handball Elements in Physical Education Classes” — E.V. Paltseva.
4.“Methodology for Using Outdoor Games in Physical Education Classes” — A.B. Trus.
5.“Health-Oriented Focus of Athletics Exercises” — R.K. Kolesnikova, A.L. Mosunov.
6.“Hygienic Foundations of Physical Education and Sports” — A.B. Trus.
7.“Features of Health-Oriented Fitness Methodology for Girls in the University Education System” — E.V. Yakshina.

Research Activities

The teaching staff of the Department of Physical Education actively participates in the implementation of research projects and programs at various levels.
Currently, the research work of the academic staff is carried out in the following areas:
• publication of articles in national scientific journals;
• participation in international, national, and regional scientific-practical and methodological conferences;
• supervision of students’ research work;
• publication of theses and articles co-authored with students in conference proceedings and national scientific journals.

Since January 2025, the Department of Physical Education has launched a research project on the topic:
“Traditional and Non-Traditional Methods of Improving Students’ Health in the Process of Physical Education Classes.”

Sports and mass events

Sports and mass activities are carried out in accordance with the annual sports and mass work plan and the calendar of sports events:

     •       Health Festival for first-year students;

     •       Student Spartakiad of KarIU in 10 sports (chess, table tennis, judo, volleyball, checkers, asyk, Kazakh wrestling, football, basketball, sports-entertainment relay);

     •       “First-Year Student” Spartakiad in 9 sports (basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, asyk, checkers, chess, toguz kumalak, bes tas);

     •       “Health Days” — Spartakiad among faculty and staff of KarIU;

     •       competitions dedicated to the Nauryz holiday in five sports (volleyball, football, darts, asyk, table tennis);

     •       Festival of National Sports (Kazakh wrestling, toguz kumalak, asyk atu, bes tas, tug-of-war);

     •       University futsal championship for the Rector’s Cup.

 

City and Regional Competitions:

     •       Regional student spartakiad for the Prize of the Akim of the Region in thirteen sports;

     •       city competitions dedicated to City Day (basketball, volleyball, Kazakh wrestling, checkers, toguz kumalak);

     •       city cross-country race among student youth;

     •       city tournament in toguz kumalak among college and university students.

 

The following sports sections operate at the department:  volleyball, basketball, football, judo and Kazakh wrestling, weightlifting, and table tennis.
