To date, 95 universities have included AI disciplines in their curricula, 30 universities are implementing 42 educational programs in the field of artificial intelligence, and 54% of teaching staff have already been trained in basic AI skills. This was reported by Dinara Shcheglova, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
She noted that an academic cluster of supercomputers has already been created, and universities have been granted access to the computing power of the national Alem.Cloud supercomputer cluster. Access has also been provided to leading global educational and technological solutions from world leaders such as Coursera, Google, Huawei, NVIDIA, ETS, and OpenAI.
Together with international partners, access to more than 2,000 AI courses and 165,000 ChatGPT Education licenses has been provided. Tomorrow School programming schools have been scaled up in 14 regions, 48 Huawei ICT Academies have been established at regional universities, and work is underway to train NVIDIA ambassadors at 12 universities. Based on labor market analysis, more than 1,500 educational programs focused on new AI-related professions have been updated and developed.
"Centers, laboratories, and departments are actively being opened at universities together with foreign partner universities and companies. This infrastructure is already being used for scientific research in medicine, ecology, chemistry, education, security, and smart city solutions," the Vice Minister said.
For instance, Cardiff University has established an artificial intelligence center and opened a specialized master's program. Joint AI programs are being implemented by Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University with SeoulTech, Satbayev University with the City University of Hong Kong, and the Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University based on the Lu Ban Workshop. Under the Bolashak program, 100 special quotas in the field of artificial intelligence are allocated annually.
One of the largest international educational projects has been the implementation of the Coursera Business to Nation model. Today, 100 universities and more than 255,000 students are involved in the initiative. Students have already completed more than 5 million hours of training and received more than 554,000 certificates, of which more than 109,000 certificates were obtained in AI fields.
Kazakhstan has also received international recognition from Coursera as one of the world's leaders in the digital transformation of education.
In 2026, Kazakhstan became one of the first countries in the world to implement ChatGPT Education across its entire education system. Under a memorandum signed with OpenAI, at least 165,000 ChatGPT Edu licenses are to be provided annually to teachers nationwide.
As part of cooperation with NVIDIA in workforce training and AI competency development, 12 Kazakhstani universities are currently participating in the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute program. Within the program, instructors undergo specialized international training and receive NVIDIA DLI certification and Ambassador Instructor status. This enables universities to implement international standards in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing training.
In addition, ICT Academy Huawei centers have already been opened at 48 universities across the regions. Joint efforts are underway to localize specialized AI courses and introduce Huawei Talent Online international certification. Furthermore, the course "AI Fundamentals: AI Overview" has been integrated into the national AI-Sana initiative as a mandatory component of students' basic training.
