Kazakhstan is strengthening the role of science and universities in the development of innovation.

At a government meeting, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, reported on the work to introduce innovations in the area under his supervision.

He noted that, in accordance with the Head of State's instruction, innovation activities have been transferred to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. As part of this instruction, certain tasks and functions of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development have been transferred to the Ministry.

"This decision is consistent with international practice, whereby innovation is fostered by science, universities, and research centers. However, it's important to understand that innovation is a complex, interdepartmental task that requires coordination not only within a single agency but across the entire government system," emphasized Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The minister also reported that Kazakhstan ranks 81st in the Global Innovation Index and 55th in Harvard University's Index of Economic Complexity. The GII is a comprehensive international index comprising 78 indicators.

"The country's position in this ranking is the result not of a single agency, but of the coordinated work of more than 10 government agencies in key areas of innovative development," added Sayasat Nurbek.

As a reminder, the PROFIT Education Day conference , dedicated to information technology in education, will be held in Almaty on October 30, 2026.
