Department History

The history of the Department of Technological Machines and Transport dates back to the period of formation of the industrial potential of the Kazakh SSR and is directly connected with the development of Kazakhstan’s Magnitka – the Karaganda Metallurgical Plant (currently Qarmet JSC).

1963. In order to provide the plant with qualified personnel, a Factory-Based Technical Higher School (Factory-VTUZ) was established at the Karaganda Metallurgical Plant (now the Karaganda Industrial University, NJSC).

1966. Within the structure of the Factory-Based Technical Higher School, the Department of Construction and Road Machines was opened to train specialists in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment used in industrial construction and the plant’s infrastructure. Later, the department was reorganized into the Department of Mechanical Equipment of Industrial Enterprises.

1975. The Department of Mechanical Equipment of Metallurgical Plants was established, later renamed Metallurgical Machines and Equipment. In the same year, the first graduation of mechanical engineers took place – 16 specialists. At different times, the department was headed by:
▪ 1975–1978 – Candidate of Technical Sciences Vladimir Nikolaevich Krivobokov

▪ 1983–1996 – Candidate of Technical Sciences Viktor Fedorovich Atamanov
▪ 1996–1998 – Doctor of Technical Sciences Boris Ruskovich Ichev

1998. On the basis of the Departments of Construction and Road Machines and Mechanical Equipment of Metallurgical Plants, the Department of Metallurgical Machines and Equipment was formed. At different times, it was headed by:
▪ 1998–2000 – Candidate of Technical Sciences Bolat Mazhitovich Kimanov
