On September 8 of this year, Chairman of the Board, Rector of Karaganda Industrial University Bolatbek Serikbayevich Abdrasilov and Member of the Board, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Galina Sivyakova took an active part in the coordination meeting of rectors of universities of the Association of Asian Universities. The online meeting was held on the basis of the Samarkand State University named after Sh. Rashidov.
The President of the Association of Asian Universities, Rector of Samara State University, Professor R.I. Halmuradov, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation K. Karimova and Vice-President of the Association of Asian Universities, President of ASU V.S. Zemlyukov addressed the participants of the meeting with a welcoming speech.
The following main issues were included in the agenda of the Coordination Meeting:
- On the results of the work on the formation of expert groups of the Association of Asian Universities in the areas and concretization of work plans.
- On measures to improve the efficiency of the Association of Asian Universities and adjust the work plan for 2023/24.
- On the expansion of the membership and geography of the Association of Asian Universities.
The online meeting also discussed issues related to the next meeting of the Association of Asian Universities, scheduled for 2024.
Recall that the idea of creating an Association of Asian Universities arose and was discussed at the International Student Asian Forum “Altai – Asia 2012”. At the same time, a memorandum was signed on the need to unite within the framework of the Association to achieve the goals of integration, mutual cooperation, and academic exchange. The Association of Asian Universities was officially established on May 22-24, 2013 at the Founding Congress with the participation of delegations of 27 universities from 8 countries of the world. The first president of the Association of Asian Universities was the rector of Altai State University Sergey V. Zemlyukov.
Today, the Association of Asian Universities includes 104 universities from 11 countries (Armenia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan).
