On October 17, 2023, within the walls of the Karaganda Industrial University a Hackathon was held for university and college students, dedicated to the anniversary of the university. The hackathon was traditionally organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence Technologies. At the opening ceremony of the Hackathon, the rector of the university Abdrasilov Bolatbek Serikbaevich addressed its participants with a welcoming speech and wishes for a successful presentation of the developed IT projects.
25 projects were submitted for participation in the Hackathon from representatives of Karaganda Technical University named after Abylkas Saginov, Karaganda Industrial University, Karaganda Medical University, Karaganda Higher Polytechnic College, Temirtau Higher Polytechnic College, Technical and Economic College at NJSC "KariU", College of Innovative Technologies of NJSC " KarTU named after Abylkas Saginov", Temirtau Technical College, Karaganda Technical and Construction College, Balkhash Multidisciplinary College.
The announced projects were carried out in the following areas:
1. “Artificial intelligence and machine learning: generative neural networks”;
2. “IT technologies in ecology”;
3. “Information security and cyber protection”;
4. “Internet of things in public life and industry.”
During the Hackathon, the participating teams presented their projects developed in the listed areas to the jury members. The jury included:
1. Lensky Daniil Vasilievich – leading network engineer of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC
2. Anastasia Olegovna Chvanova – senior lecturer at the Department of Artificial Intelligence Technologies at NJSC KarIU.
3. Alibek Yesimbekuly Batyrbek – doctoral student of the AiU-23d group of the educational program “Automation and Control” of NJSC “Kariu”.
The jury assessed each Project on a 10-point scale based on a combination of the following criteria:
1) compliance of the project idea with the task set within the framework of the Hackathon directions;
2) originality and innovation of the design solution;
3) elaboration of the technical solution;
4) economic efficiency of the proposed design solution;
5) quality of preparation of presentation materials and speeches.
6) project potential.
Based on the results of the hackathon, prizes were distributed as follows.
The first place was taken by the team of KarTU named after. A. Saginova and Karaganda Medical University, who developed a project for detecting brain tumors and pneumonia using artificial intelligence. The team was represented by students Nuriden Muktar, Makhambet Askat, Aekina Saniya. The team leader is Lazzat Kenzhebekovna Magzumova.
Second place was taken by students Dmitry Shmidt, Andrey Zubarev, Anastasia Shamaeva, representing Temirtau Higher Polytechnic College. The guys presented a project called “Auto Traffic Light System (ATLS)”, dedicated to the use of neural networks to automatically control the operation of traffic lights on highways.
Third place was taken by representatives of the Temirtau Higher Polytechnic College Igor Rechner, Nazar Burambaev and Ruslan Mukhametgaliev, who developed a project for a 3D tour of the college for the adaptation of first-year students.
The presentation of prizes to the winners of the Hackathon will take place at the Karaganda Industrial University on October 20, 2023.
