A scientific and innovative hackathon "on mining and metallurgical industry" Integration of science and production has started on the basis of Karaganda Industrial University in Temirtau. Scientists, industry representatives and managers gathered to look for and develop scientific and technological solutions not only for the Qarmet plant, but also for the entire domestic industry as a whole.
This is the sixth hackathon. In previous years, scientists have raised issues related to ferrous metallurgy, such as the problem of accessibility of rich deposits, the transition to poor ores, and the introduction of liquid–phase non-straw production of cast iron and steel.
Since the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan has begun work on the development of the practice of interaction between scientists and production workers. Industrialists set technical tasks for researchers, and they, in turn, look for solutions for their implementation with the support of the state.
– On behalf of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, we direct the efforts of science to the needs of large industrial enterprises. We started with the mining and metallurgical industry, because it is the basis of the economy," said Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. – Our goal is to unite research teams with industrial enterprises and find innovative solutions that will help improve processes and increase efficiency. In particular, the Qarmet metallurgical plant will receive solutions for outdated technological problems, and scientists will receive clearly formulated scientific and technical tasks.
An exhibition of scientific projects that have been successfully implemented into production processes was also organized in the lobby of CarIU
Before the hackathon, a meeting was held between technical experts from the metallurgical plant and scientists from the universities of KarTA named after him. Abylkas Saginov and KarIU.
According to Vadim Basin, General Director of Qarmet JSC, a number of technical tasks have been formed that require non-standard solutions. For example, it is necessary to develop innovative technologies for drilling gas drainage wells to reduce the concentration of methane in mines.
The Akimat of the Karaganda region is also ready to provide support to scientific and industrial projects.
– Temirtau is a key city for our region. 30% of the region's production is a metallurgical plant and enterprises around it. It is very important for us that Qarmet develops," said Akim of Karaganda region Ermaganbet Bulekpayev. – Starting next year, the implementation of 11 major projects, including innovative enterprises, will begin in the region. If science actively participates, we are ready to support these initiatives. In particular, we are ready to subsidize interest rates on projects related to the Qarmet plant.
Minister Sayasat Nurbek also shared plans for the development of science in Kazakhstan. In the coming years, campuses of more than 30 foreign universities will open in the country, including in the Karaganda region. It is planned to create knowledge-intensive territories that will become centers for the introduction of innovative solutions and technologies.
