Four thousand years ago, the land of Kazakhstan became the largest metallurgy center on the Eurasian continent. At that time, copper was being produced here not only for the needs of the local population, but also for extensive interstate exchange along the Silk Road.
A huge number of ancient mines, quarries and tunnels have been preserved on the territory of Saryarka. Among them are the grandiose complexes of Dzhezkazgan, Karazhal (Shet district), groups of mines of the Northern Balkhash region, Karkaralinsk, Bayanaul and Karaganda steppes.
Today, the study of ancient metallurgy and mining in Central Kazakhstan is of particular importance. Relevant research leads to a more detailed understanding of the historical development of metallurgical technologies in the region, and in addition, helps to eliminate the still existing gaps on the archaeological map of the republic.
On January 21, representatives of the Karaganda Industrial University, including head of the library Abeshova Ainur Temirkhanovna and Director of the Institute Yerzhanov Bauyrzhan Zhansultanovich, visited the Faculty of History of the Karaganda State University named after Buketov, where they met with the famous Kazakh archaeologist, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Zauymbaev Sagyndyk Ubaevich. The meeting participants discussed the cultural and historical heritage of the region and the development of promising scientific projects.
It is worth noting the significant contribution of Sagyndyk Ubayevich Zhauymbaev to the study of ancient metallurgy and mining. In 1984, the professor defended his PhD thesis on "Ancient metallurgy and mining in Central Kazakhstan (the Bronze Age)."
To date, Professor Zhauymbayev continues his active scientific activity, participating in conferences and publishing works on archeology and the history of metallurgy in Kazakhstan.
The meeting with the professor will contribute to the development of joint promising scientific projects aimed at systematizing existing knowledge and educating a wide audience about the role of ancient metallurgy in the history of Kazakhstan.
