On February 04, on the basis of the NAO Karaganda Industrial University, under the auspices of the National Academy of Engineering of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the first event dedicated to the Year of Working Professions, announced by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2025, was held in the universities of the region. Representatives of local executive bodies, educational institutions and enterprises gathered at the university site. The main issues discussed during the forum were: increasing the prestige of working professions and attracting young people to industrial and social professions, which play a key role in the development of the country's economy.
The Chairman of the Board – Rector, Chairman of the Karaganda branch of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.A. Zhautikov delivered a report on the results of the year. Answers were given to questions from the university teachers and staff.
- The president's initiative is especially relevant for the industrial Karaganda region. There are a lot of large industrial enterprises in our region that require a lot of workers. That's why we decided to come together on one platform to work together to develop a plan for interaction between employers, educational institutions and youth, as well as to coordinate programs for technical, vocational, higher and postgraduate education. The principals of schools and colleges in Temirtau and the region are also present here today," says KarIU Rector Bakhyt Zhautikov. – Within the framework of the forum, our university signed a memorandum of cooperation with the regional Department of Education. We are interested in improving the quality of education, and this is impossible without cooperation.
In general, a plan has been developed for the Karaganda region, which includes more than 100 events that promote active interaction between employers, educational institutions and youth. Thus, it is planned to actively attract business structures and investors to develop a system of dual education and specialist training based on a targeted order from enterprises. Colleges are being clustered in eight priority areas: education, construction, transport, energy, IT and communications, mining, light industry, and agriculture. Colleges will continue to open new specialties that are in demand on the labor market. In addition, it is planned to train more than 3,000 people in new professions at short-term courses. In particular, training will be conducted at the request of employers and at the workplace.
"The Year of Working Professions actually gives us a lot of opportunities," said Aizhan Ziyasheva, Director of the Personnel Training and Development Department at Qarmet JSC. - Now we immediately present our problems, requests, and challenges that the shortage of personnel in working professions poses to us. Today, the shortage of workers in our three departments: steel, coal and iron ore is about 3,000 people. There is a lot of work to be done, and we are all working together to resolve this issue. We are already working closely with 4 universities and 13 colleges.
The focus is also on career guidance. Specialized classes in the fields of medicine, agro, IT, service, etc. are currently operating in schools in the region. Working professions will be popularized from a young age, and preschoolers will be taken on field trips to local businesses.
