On March 20, those who decided to celebrate Nauryz Meiramy with sporting achievements met at the sports complex of Karaganda Industrial University. More than fifty students of the university and colleges of the city competed in five sports known since the days of Cengis Khan.
For a long time, Kazakh national sports were considered exclusively as folk games and, as a rule, were more popular in rural areas. And it was probably a mistake. Because now the situation in this regard is completely different. Many Kazakh national sports have become beloved by representatives of the most diverse nationalities inhabiting Kazakhstan. And, of course, they have become an integral part of the festive events dedicated to Nauryz. Now these are not just games, but full-fledged competitions, in which victory is desirable and honorable.
"This is a living example of how the ancient Nauryz holiday has harmoniously integrated into modern life, preserving the continuity of traditions," says Raisa Kolesnikova, chief judge of the competition, Head of the Department of Physical Education at KarIU. - National sports contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of national identity among the younger generation. And most importantly, they develop qualities such as endurance, strength, agility, and others.
For example, kazaksha kures is more than just a sport. It is a symbol of courage and strength. The traditional form of wrestling originated in ancient times and remains popular both in Kazakhstan and abroad to this day. Despite its simplicity, kazaksha kures requires high physical fitness and strategic thinking.
But togyz kumalak is called shepherd algebra because it uses all mathematical operations. According to legend, it was invented by shepherds who loved to compete with each other in oral counting. The ancient Kazakh game togyz kumalak, once almost forgotten and then revived, is gaining more and more fans every year. Her popularity has long gone beyond the borders of Kazakhstan.
- I have been playing togyz kumalak since childhood, I have been a prize-winner of many city and regional competitions. I believe that this game develops mathematical thinking and analytical abilities," says Aizhan Baykozha, a 2nd-year student at CarIU. - Recently, I went to study in Poland for academic mobility. I showed this game there, and many people liked it. I even taught Polish kids how to play it. Abroad, I talked not only about our national games, but also showed Kazakh ornaments, ornaments, and told about our customs. All this is of great interest.
But Alexander Drugov decided to test his strength in the arkan Tartu – tug of war. Historically, arkan tartu was played during important social events and celebrations such as Nauryz or weddings, where not only men, but also women and children competed.
The game arkan Tartu kudalar was especially popular, in which relatives from the bride and groom's side participated. This tradition served as a way to strengthen family ties and create a friendly atmosphere between new relatives.
- I chose this game because it's a team competition. It requires dexterity and strength from all participants. Moreover, the rules of conduct provide for certain restrictions and prohibitions, for example, athletes are not allowed to change seats and change hands during a fight," the 2nd-year student explained. – In general, the game is emotional, it gives a surge of adrenaline.
In addition, the boys and girls competed in marksmanship, playing assik ata, as well as in accuracy and attentiveness, which is required by the devil (the game of 5 pebbles).
- The best holiday is the one that is spent with health benefits, - said Nurkeldi Omarkhanov, chairman of the branch of the AMANAT party, which unites members of the party working in Qarmet JSC. – It is pleasant that modern youth supports sports traditions, including national ones. This is important not only for the preservation of our history, but also for the recovery of the younger generation.
The organizers of the competition were the Youth Resource Center of Temirtau, Karaganda Industrial University, a branch of the party of employees of JSC "Qarmet", as well as DODO pizza.
The winners and prize-winners were awarded with diplomas and cash prizes. Sports fans themselves note that these competitions belong to the category of those in which the principle prevails: the main thing is not victory, the main thing is participation. And the most expensive reward for them was a good mood, a boost of cheerfulness and optimism.
