On April 10, the Republican Scientific and Practical conference "The role of science in increasing the prestige of engineering work" was held at the Karaganda Industrial University. The event, organized with the support of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was dedicated to the importance of science in strengthening the status of engineering professions, the interaction of science, business and education, as well as increasing the interest of young people in engineering specialties.
Bakhyt Akhatovich Zhautikov, Chairman of the Board-Rector of NAO Karaganda Industrial University: In addition to educational activities, our university is actively engaged in scientific activities and popularization of science. The National Engineering Academy has been actively operating in Kazakhstan for 35 years, and its president Bakytzhan Tursunovich Zhumagulov, a well–known statesman, politician, and public figure, is our guest of honor today. A whole delegation from different cities of the country came to us. Among the guests are young scientists and representatives of industries. And of course, our native Qarmet, QazTehna, Inkar-1 and many others are present here.
As part of the conference, the participants took part in an excursion to the Qarmet plant, which allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the technological processes, from processing raw materials to the production of finished products. The guests got acquainted with the work of the hot-dip galvanizing and aluminizing workshop, which specializes in the production of galvanized products by dipping steel strips into zinc melt, as well as in the production of polymer products, which include applying polyester enamel to galvanized products. In addition, the participants of the tour were shown the heart of the metallurgical plant, namely, blast furnace production. Cast iron is produced here, which is then delivered to the converter shop, where it is subsequently converted into steel.
During the visit to the plant, the conference participants discussed the prospects for the development of the metallurgical industry, as well as the interaction of science and production. This event has become an excellent platform for exchanging ideas and establishing new professional contacts.

- In fact, without engineers, it is impossible to operate any of the areas of the industry. All these areas are based on serious scientific research and serious engineering and technological solutions. Therefore, as one of the largest enterprises, we are very pleased that this conference is being held in Temirtau, at the Karaganda Industrial University. The education of new personnel is a key moment for us to ensure the future of both the company and our entire region. We are glad to welcome the conference participants and would like to wish them fruitful work, effective communication and new ideas. And the most important thing is that these ideas should be implemented later.
At the conference itself, the participants presented their scientific reports and research on various aspects of engineering. They discussed modern achievements, as well as prospects for the development of science and technology.
Meanwhile, an exhibition of scientific projects was held in the university's lobby. The project managers presented the current results of their work, which have the potential to be implemented into production processes. The guests and participants of the conference got acquainted with the rich scientific potential of the university, presented in the form of monographs, patents, articles and textbooks.
Zhumagulov Bakytzhan Tursynovich, President of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
- The sections have worked at the highest level. There were very good, serious reports. I also saw your exhibition. I was very pleased. Science has come to Temirtau. It hasn't just come, it's coming. And if someone does not like to implement these developments, we will insist that they implement the results of your scientific research!(...) Today, Karaganda and Temirtau are truly the industrial capitals of Kazakhstan. You're lucky to have Qarmet nearby. Today we toured the plant, looked at the blast furnace, and looked at the finished products. It's just fate that gives you the right to learn by doing. Your university has many, many times more prospects than any other university.
An important event on this day was the opening of a branch of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan at Karaganda Industrial University. It is a large and reputable association that coordinates and develops scientific and engineering activities in Kazakhstan. The KarIU branch of the Academy will ensure the university's transition to a fundamentally new level of practical implementation of scientific results, its effective integration with production, business, and meeting promising technological market requirements.
Tuleshev Amandyk Kuatovich, Vice-President of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
- Our president highlights science as a strategic direction. At the same time, of course, he is referring to the influence of science on personnel training. In the era of technology, artificial intelligence, and high-tech industries, human resources play a very important role. Therefore, the issue of increasing the prestige of engineering work is very important. The National Academy of Engineering in Temirtau came to discuss this problem.
Taurbekov Oraz Kaisaevich, Deputy Akim of Karaganda region:
- For us, this is a high assessment of the skill level of our engineering staff and local science. Of course, this will have a positive impact on promoting the image of engineering specialties and popularizing professions related to this industry. It will also have an impact on the relationship between science and production. I congratulate our scientists on this achievement and wish them further success.
At the end of the plenary session, a solemn awarding ceremony was held. Bakytzhan Tursynovich Zhumagulov, an outstanding statesman and public figure, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, academician, was awarded the title of "Honorary Professor of the University" by the decision of the Academic Council of Karaganda Industrial University for his great contribution to the development of engineering science and industry, support for young scientists, strengthening international cooperation, and introducing advanced technologies into the country's economy.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Karaganda Industrial University, Rector Bakhyt Akhatovich Zhautikov was awarded the badge "For significant contribution to the development of engineering science of the Republic of Kazakhstan".
The head of the QazTehna Corporate University, Aitbayev Aidos Saduakasuly, was awarded the badge "For significant contribution to the development of engineering in the Republic of Kazakhstan".
The certificate of the scientific supervisor was awarded to Bazarov Bauyrzhan Anuarkhanuly, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Construction.
The certificate of Academic Advisor of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was awarded to Saula Kabieva, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Chemical Technology and Ecology.
The certificate of the scientific director of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was awarded to Guldana Suyindikova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Acting Head of the Department of Metalworking by Pressure.
The academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy was awarded:
- Abdrashit Asylbek Miramkhanuly on the educational program 8D07202- Metallurgy of ferrous and non-ferrous metals;
-Mukhametkhan Marzhan, specialty 6D070900 – Metallurgy.
The badge of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education "For merits in the development of science" was awarded:
- Candidate of Technical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Energy, Transport and Management Systems Gulnar Gazizovna Zhabalova;
- Doctor of Philosophy, Director of the Department of Academic Policy Elena Mikhailovna Kharchenko;
- Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor, Director of Science and Innovation Ainabekova Saule Serikbaykyzy.
They were awarded with certificates of honor and letters of appreciation from the Minister of Science and Higher Education:

As a result of the conference, recommendations were developed to solve existing problems aimed at improving educational programs, stimulating research projects, establishing partnerships with industrial enterprises, popularizing engineering professions and creating favorable conditions for the development of innovations.
The event will be an important step towards strengthening the prestige of engineering in Kazakhstan and will contribute to the further development of science and technology in our country.
