Karaganda Industrial University has opened the Center for Sustainable Technologies and Green Development (Green Deal Center, GDC) as part of the ERASMUS+ international project “Green Deal for Central Asian Universities (GDCAU)” (2024-2027).
The project aims to strengthen the role of Central Asian universities as key participants in sustainable development and their integration into the implementation of the European Green Course.
The main objectives of the project include the development and improvement of educational programs in the field of sustainable and restorative development, strengthening the ESG indicators of universities, as well as developing partnerships between higher education institutions, business and social structures in the region.
The Center for Sustainable Technologies and Green Development will become the main platform for communication and exchange of experience between the project participants. It will serve as a hub and learning space for the interaction of universities, green companies, non-governmental organizations and relevant ministries of the EU and Central Asian countries.
The Center is focused on promoting the principles of open science, assessing the environmental sustainability of local enterprises and supporting their transition to a green economy. Educational, scientific and practical initiatives aimed at developing innovative environmental solutions and increasing environmental awareness in society will be implemented here.
The GDCAU project unites leading universities in Europe and Central Asia: Constructor University Bremen (Germany), Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (Slovakia), University for Continuing Education Krems (Austria), as well as universities in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
The international format of the project promotes the exchange of experience, joint scientific research and the development of modern educational programs in the field of sustainable development.
According to the latest QS – Asia ranking, universities in Central Asia are showing positive dynamics, strengthening their positions in the international educational space. This confirms the relevance and importance of joint initiatives in the field of sustainable development and green technologies.
The opening of the Center for Sustainable Technologies and Green Development is an important step towards the formation of a culture of sustainable thinking, responsible attitude to the environment and the introduction of innovations in the field of environmental education.
