The relevance of the project The project is directed to a solution of the problem of weak digitalization, lack or search of alternative widespread programs and techniques for replacement of the expensive software products intended for the solution of metallographic and materials research tasks of quality control of metal products. Development of the similar information and digital principles will allow to extend to a wide range of interested persons (consumers) a technique and the principles of the digital analysis of microstructures of metal products instead of application of the classical labor-consuming procedures described in such state standard specifications as GOST 5639-82 «Steel and alloys. Methods of identification and determination of size of grain: method of determination of size of grain comparison with reference scales; method of calculation of grains; methods of calculation of crossings of borders of grains; method of measurement of lengths of chords», GOST 1778-70 «Steel. Metallographic methods of definition of non-metallic inclusions» and GOST P 54570-2011 «Steel. Methods of assessment of degree of a banding or orientation of microstructures» which do not exclude a measurement error due to existence of a subjective component of contractor.

Expected project results

Possibilities of modern software products from different price ranges will be analyzed and the most optimum and economically feasible products for the solution of metal science tasks are chosen.

The chosen number of software products will be adapted the solution of materials research tasks. The universal scheme or the information and digital principles of quality control of metal products will be developed.

Opportunities modern software for the solution of qualitative and quantitative problems of a metallography will be proved and also technology of digital registration and the description of images of structures for the forecast of mechanical properties for structure for the purpose of improvement of quality of metal products is introduced (in educational and laboratory conditions).

Change of structure of steel (heterogeneity) of examples of various metal products depending on the choice of a steel grade and change of the modes/production technology of a finished product with application of software of observation and measurement of structures will be investigated.

The dependence of mechanical properties on heterogeneity of structure of the chosen metal products samples will be investigated.

2 (two) articles will be published in journals from the first three quartiles with an impact factor in the Web of Science database or having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 50 and 1 (one) article in peer-reviewed foreign or domestic publications recommended by Committee for Quality Assurance in the Sphere of Education and Science of MSHE RK.

The results achieved at the moment

1) The capabilities of modern (classic) software products from different price ranges for performing certain high-quality metallographic and/or metallographic tasks are considered.

The most optimal and economically feasible products for solving the specified tasks are selected.

An analysis and comparison of software products (Thermo-Calc, MATLAB, etc.) are carried out, and the capabilities of modern programs are considered.

A specific series of modern classic programs are selected and tested, hypothetically allowing for performing high-quality and quantitative metallographic and/or metallographic tasks.

2) A number of classic software products have been selected that are adapted to solving materials science problems.

A universal scheme or information-digital principles of quality control of metal products has been developed.

The developed scheme or information-digital principles of quality control of metal products have been primarily substantiated and tested.

MATLAB software has been purchased. This software, in combination with a traditional software package (Microsoft Excel, etc.), has been adapted to solving materials science problems – the corresponding code and scheme have been created.

The results of the work performed are described in the abstract of the International Conference of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

3) The capabilities of modern software for solving qualitative and quantitative metallography problems are substantiated. The MatLab software, adapted for mathematically precise determination of geometric parameters of the main structural components of metal and alloy images, allows determining all possible quantitative indicators of the structure. Microsoft Excel allows processing the obtained data arrays with quantitative parameters of all structural components and additionally mathematically analyzing and, if necessary, constructing histograms of the distribution of certain informative indicators of the structure of the alloys under study. The mechanisms for obtaining an adequate and objective image in digital form and the corresponding algorithm for measuring informative elements of the structure responsible for the mechanical properties and quality of the material as a whole are proposed. Thus, in educational and laboratory conditions, the technique of digital registration and description of structure images for predicting mechanical properties by structure in order to improve the quality of metal products has been introduced.
