History

The faculty of metallurgy and mechanical engineering was reorganized from the faculty of metallurgy and construction in 2017. Training of specialists is conducted in accordance with the credit system of training. In 2010-2012, the Dean of the faculty was PhD, associate Professor Tungusov B. T. From January 2013. the Dean of the faculty are Ph. D. Smailov S. A., since September 2014, Dean was associate Professor, Ph. D. Zhabalova G. G., since September 2017 The faculty was headed by Associate Professor, Ph.D. Musin D.K., since september 2021 the faculty is headed by Ph.D., Professor Zhabalova G.G.

As of September 1, 2021, the faculty consists of four departments:

  • Department of «Metallurgy and materials science» (head. CFR. – doctor PhD, Erzhanov A.S.);
  • Department of «Pressure processing of materials» (head. CFR. – doctor of PhD, associate Professor Akhmetova G. E.);
  • Department of «Chemical technology and ecology» (head. CFR. – Ph. D., associate Professor Kabieva S. K.);

Three departments – «metallurgy and materials science», «processing of materials by pressure», «Chemical technology and ecology» are producing. The faculty prepares bachelors and masters in metallurgy, mechanical engineering, chemical technology and industrial safety, as well as PhD candidates in metallurgy and nanotechnology.

The faculty currently has a highly qualified teaching staff, including 4 doctors of science, 16 candidates of science, 8 doctors of PhD and 12 masters of science.

Students study both disciplines on the profile of their chosen specialty, as well as General professional, natural-scientific and social-humanitarian character. Students acquire professional skills in the specialty during practical training at the enterprises of the city and the Republic. It is possible to study in other Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and outside the country (USA, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, etc.) under the academic mobility program. Foreign specialists are invited to teach students. Among the outstanding graduates of the faculty are the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, former Minister of ferrous metallurgy of the USSR, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, now President of Financial and industrial groups of Russia Oleg Soskovets.
