Work experience:
1981-1982 Senior laboratory assistant at the Laboratory of Catalytic Synthesis of the Chemical and Metallurgical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.
1982-1983 Service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
1984-1985 Trainee researcher of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Kazakh State University.
1986-2006 Junior Researcher, researcher, senior researcher, leading researcher, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Organic Synthesis and Carbon Chemistry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2006 – present: Head of the Laboratory for the Synthesis of biologically active Substances.
Scientific activity: I provide guidance in the scientific direction related to the synthesis and research of physico-chemical properties, biological activity of new multifunctional derivatives of industrially available alkaloids and their synthetic analogues. From among the synthesized more than 750 new organic compounds, highly effective drugs with antitumor, hepatoprotective, hypertensive, antituberculous, nootropic, and other types of bioactivity have been found, which in the future may find wide application in medical practice.
Publications: I am a co-author of more than 650 scientific papers, including 15 monographs, 8 copyright certificates of the USSR and 26 patents for invention and utility model of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Many of his articles have been published in international publications with a high impact factor, such as “Molecules”, “Mendeleev Communications”, “Journal of General Chemistry”, “Journal of Organic Chemistry”, “Chemistry of Natural Compounds”, “Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds”, “Izvestia RAS”, as well as more than 130 articles in publications of informational databases of the Web of Science company. For the period 2015 to 2022 Nurkenov O.A. 121 scientific papers have been published, as well as 30 works in the publications of the information base of the company Web of Science and RSCI. The Hirsch index of Nurkenov O.A. using the Web of Science database is 8.

2019 – badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Gylymdy damytuga sinirgen enbegi ushin”.
1999 – diploma of the laureate of the international competition of scientific projects “Synthesis and modification of natural compounds – 98/99”.
2001 – commemorative gold medal “For contribution to science and scientific partnership” in the nomination “For a special contribution to the development of modern methods of synthesis and modification of heterocycles”.
