SIGNED THE MEMORANDUM
A round table on decarbonization of metallurgical production was held in Temirtau. This is a very important and urgent problem related to climate change on our planet. The round table discussed issues of decarbonization of the metallurgical industry in the world, as well as specifically at the ArcelorMittal Temirtau plant (AMT).
Foreign scientists who participated in the round table told about the experience of Germany, Denmark, Italy, where specific measures were taken to reduce harmful CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and the decarbonization process began. Unfortunately, systemic measures to reduce the AMT of harmful CO2 emissions were not presented at the round table. At the round table, our scientists talked about one of the ways to solve this problem by selectively reducing iron with hydrogen gas from iron ores, which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. This project is being developed with foreign partners. The discussions at the round table showed the great demand for scientific approaches to solve the problems of atmospheric pollution of JSC «AMT». This round table was organized by the REC «Green Academy» headed by the famous scientist, statesman, member of the Council for the «Green Academy» under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Yessekina. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministries of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Ecology and Natural Resources, JSC «Samruk Kazyna», the management of JSC «ArcelorMittal Temirtau», representatives of Karaganda Industrial University: Rector Abdrasilov Bolatbek Serikbayevich, Vice-Rector for Science, Innovation and International Cooperation Mahmudov Bolat Bizhanovich, university scientists, foreign and Kazakhstani experts in the field of decarbonization.
Following the results of the round table, a Memorandum on cooperation in the field of «green» technologies was signed between CarIU, REC «Green Academy», JSC «AMT».
