The department "History of Kazakhstan, social and humanitarian disciplines and physical culture" was formed on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of KSIU dated June 30, 2017. There are two sections in the structure of the department:

- "Social and humanitarian sciences";

- "Physical education".

Previously, sections were separate departments and were structural divisions of the university with their own history, traditions and directions of educational, methodological and scientific activities.

The section "Social and Humanitarian Sciences" has been repeatedly reorganized during its existence. On November 1, 1963, simultaneously with the formation of the VTUZ plant at the KMZ, the Department of Social Sciences was created here, headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Historical Sciences Zaitsev Vasily Yakovlevich.

In December 1964, the Department of Social Sciences was renamed the Department of Marxism-Leninism. In 1968, two new structures were created on its basis - the Department of History of the CPSU and Scientific Communism and the Department of Philosophy and Political Economy.

The department "Philosophy and political economy" in 1973-1976 was headed by Siyanina Maya Mikhailovna, and since 1976 - Popandopulo Ivan Lazarevich.

In 1990, another humanitarian department "Moral, aesthetic and legal education" was created at the Institute, renamed in 1992 into the Department of Cultural Studies. In 1992-1994 it was headed by Valentina Nikolaevna Shitova, and since 1994 by Oksana Nikolaevna Gumenchuk.

Section "Physical education". The department was founded in the plant-technical college at the KMZ in 1967. The first head of the department was Teryaki Yuri Ivanovich. From 1976 to 1984, the department was headed by Pak Viktor Nikolaevich, from 1984 to 2000 - Tokarev Vladimir Alekseevich. Since 2000, the department was headed by a graduate of the Kazakh Institute of Physical Culture, a candidate for master of sports in artistic gymnastics Bobrovskaya Tatyana Nikolaevna.

At different times, the honored coach of Kazakhstan in judo and sambo wrestling, master of sports of the USSR Filatov Sergey Aleksandrovich, honored master of sports, twenty-time world champion in powerlifting Sivokon Aleksey Nikolaevich, master of sports of international class in rowing Dmitrieva Irina Yurievna worked in the department at different times.

In November 1996, as a result of another institute-wide restructuring, all the humanities departments were merged into one department "Philosophy and Social Sciences and Humanities"
