Currently the department conducts research work on the Basic research Program on the following topics:

  • Research and design of promising foundation designs in complex engineering and geological conditions.
  • Development of technology for drying and using carbon-containing sludge in metallurgical processes.
  • Processing and disposal of coal flotation plants flotation waste.

In 2001, on the basis of KSIU, a division of a Scientific Research Institute of Building Production (NIISP) was formed and headed by Doctor of technical Sciences, Professor Filatov A.V.

The staff of NIISP employs teaching staff, graduates and undergraduates of the Department «Construction». Every year NIISP carries out contractual and state budget research work in coordination with industrial and construction organizations.

A great contribution to science was the creation of the dissertation council K14.31.05 (approved by the order of DANK of Kazakhstan dated February 26, 1998 No. 52-1zh) on the basis of the department for the advocacy of scientific theses in the specialty “Foundations and Basements”, with the chairman Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor Zhusupbekov A.Zh. From 1998 to 2001 scientific theses were advocated by 14 candidates, including citizens from Japan, Turkey and Cambodia.

The Department "Construction" is working on the following topics:

  • Studies of building structures, soil and foundation.
  • Development of geotechnology for deep foundation pile foundations.
  • Development of promising foundation designs in complex engineering and geological conditions.
  • Studies of the interaction of pile foundations with soil foundations in the conditions of the Karaganda region in the development of coal deposits.
  • Use of industrial waste in construction.

The department also provides scientific and technical support in the construction, operation and reconstruction of industrial, civil buildings and structures.

The teaching staff of the department carries out research work on concluded contracts.

The department provides practical assistance to construction organizations on the organization of production, the introduction of new technologies aimed at saving building materials.

Scientists of chair on the basis of scientific researches wrote over 600 articles, including monographs, more than 200 copyright certificates on inventions, including over 20 patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and CIS countries are received.

In 1997 for the first time in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan National Geotechnical Association was created on the basis of the «Civil Engineering and Ecology» department, which included more than 70 specialists from different universities and organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its currently functioning at ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov.

On May 28-31, 1997 the association, chair, the Ministry of science and education of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of the Euroasian state university of a name of Gumilev held the Ist Kazakhstan national geotechnical conference with participation of foreign experts on a subject «Foundation engineering problems in soil conditions of the new capital».

On May 25 – 28, 2000 was carried out the Ist Central Asian geotechnical symposium on a subject \ «Geotechnical problems of construction, architecture and ecology at a turn of the XXI century».

On August 3-4, 2001 was carried out the Kazakh-Japanese Geotechnical seminar under the auspices of the Kazakhstan and Japanese geotechnical associations.

The chair participates with scientific reports in work of the international symposiums and conferences in the various countries of the near and far abroad.

On problems of geotechnical construction specialists of chair took part in scientific conferences, symposiums of the leading countries of Europe, Asia, Australia.
