The department "Technological machines and transport" is one of the important structural divisions of the university, which conducts scientific and educational activities as part of the training of engineering and technical specialists with deep theoretical and practical training, strong professional knowledge, skills and abilities for the design, construction and operation of machinery and equipment in various fields of production and transport.

The history of the formation of the department "Technological machines and transport" is closely connected with the history of the previously existing departments "Metallurgical machines and equipment" (formerly "Mechanical equipment of metallurgical plants") and "Mechanical equipment of industrial enterprises" (formerly "Construction and road machines").

The department "Mechanical Equipment of Metallurgical Plants" (later "Metallurgical Machines and Equipment") was founded in 1975 and the first graduates of mechanical engineers in the number of 16 persons were carried out. The first head of the department was cand. tech. sc. Krivobokov Vladimir Nikolaevich, who worked in this position until 1978. The department was headed at different times: associate professor Burdov Alexei Ivanovich (1978), cand. tech. sc. Ilkun Vladimir Ivanovich (1978-1983, 2000-2001); cand. tech. sc. Atamanov Victor Fedorovich (1983-1996); doct. tech. sc. Ichev Boris Ruskovich (1996-1998); cand. tech. sc. Kimanov Bolat Mazhitovich (1998-2000); cand. tech. sc. Kuznetsov Boris Sergeevich (2001-2005); cand. tech. sc. Izmesteva Olga Alekseevna (2005-2006).

In 1998, the Department of Metallurgical Machinery and Equipment (MM&O) was merged with the Department of Mechanical Equipment of Industrial Enterprises (formerly Construction and Road Machinery), which was headed by Associate Professor Aleksey Ivanovich Burdov, cand. tech. sc. Petin Yury Petrovich, cand. tech. sc. Kryukov Alexander Alexandrovich, cand. tech. sc. Popov Vladimir Grigorievich, cand. tech. sc. Vinnik Anatoly Fedorovich, cand. tech. sc. Werner Alexander Oskarovich, cand. tech. sc. Orynbasarov Amangeldi Satybaldievich.

As a result of the merger, the department began to train not only metallurgical mechanics, but also for the transport and construction industries. In connection with the expansion of the training profile in 2008, the department changed its name and became known as the department "Technological Machines and Transport" (TMT). Since 2006, the department has been headed by cand. tech. sc. Nogayev Kairosh Abilovich.

The Department of ‘Technological Machines and Transport” has a material and technical base (classroom fund, computer classes, laboratories, instrumentation, stock materials) that meets the current sanitary and technical standards and provides for all types of theoretical and practical training provided for by the curriculum, as well as effective implementation of research work.Currently, the department is training personnel for educational programs of bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies.

Graduates of the department occupy various positions, including managerial and management, in industry, science and business.
