History of the department
The Department of Chemical Technology and Ecology has a rich history and more than sixty years of scientific and pedagogical tradition, closely related to the development of industry in Central Kazakhstan.
On September 1, 1963, the VTUZ Plant was established on the basis of the Karaganda Metallurgical Plant, which became the basis for training engineering personnel for the chemical and metallurgical industries. In accordance with Order No. 2 of November 1, 1963, the Department of Chemical Technology was established at the Temirtau Technical Technical University, which laid the foundation for chemical technology education in the region.
In 1965, as a result of structural development, the department was divided into independent divisions:
Physical and Analytical Chemistry,
General Chemistry,
and Chemical Production Technology,
this made it possible to deepen the training of specialists and expand scientific areas.
In 1996, after the Department of Mineral Processing was joined, the specialized areas were merged into the Department of Chemistry, Chemical Technology and Mineral Processing. The head of the department during this period was Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Muzychuk V.D., under whose leadership the foundations of interdisciplinary training of specialists for the chemical and mining and metallurgical industries were laid.
Since 1998, the department has been headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Arbuzov V.A., and the department has been renamed "Chemical Technology" again, focusing its educational and scientific activities on modern chemical engineering processes and production technologies.
In 2007, the Ecology section was included in the structure of the department, which led to the expansion of educational programs and the renaming of the department to Chemical Technology and Ecology, reflecting modern requirements for environmental and industrial safety of production.
Since September 2018, the Department of Chemical Technology and Ecology has been headed by Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Saule Kabieva Kazzhanovna, under whose leadership the department is actively developing, implementing multi-level educational programs, strengthening research activities and expanding cooperation with industrial and pharmaceutical enterprises.
General information about the department
The Department is one of the leading structural divisions of the university, providing training for highly qualified specialists in the chemical, pharmaceutical, industrial and environmental sectors. The educational, research and innovation activities of the department are focused on the formation of professional competencies that meet the modern requirements of science, industry and the labor market.
Currently, the department implements a multi-level training system for bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degree programs.:

7M07206 "Pharmaceutical production technology"
7M11201 "Industrial and environmental safety"
8D07101 "Chemical technology of organic substances"
The training of students is based on the integration of fundamental chemical and technological knowledge with applied aspects of modern production, standardization, labor protection, environmental and industrial safety. Curricula of educational programs are regularly updated taking into account the requirements of state educational standards, professional standards and the needs of the real sector of the economy.
The faculty of the department consists of about 30 highly qualified specialists, including doctors and candidates of Sciences, PhD, professors, associate professors, senior lecturers, as well as practitioners with experience in industry and the pharmaceutical sector. Teachers of the department actively participate in research projects, grant programs, international collaborations, publish in high-ranking scientific journals and introduce research results into the educational process.
The department pays special attention to the development of students' scientific potential, involving students, undergraduates and doctoral students in research activities, completing term papers and graduation papers, participating in scientific conferences, competitions and startup projects. The educational process is provided with a modern educational and laboratory base and is focused on the formation of practice-oriented skills in demand in chemical, pharmaceutical and related industries.
Graduates of the department successfully find jobs in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, research organizations, testing laboratories, industrial and environmental safety authorities, and continue their studies and scientific careers in leading scientific centers of the country and abroad.
